Sony offers statement on Kesha/Luke ‘s case

Sony Music has offered a statement about the ongoing legal battle between Kesha and Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald. Speaking to The New York Times on behalf of the company, Scott Edelman said, “Sony has made it possible for Kesha to record without any connection, involvement, or interaction with Luke whatsoever, but Sony is not in a position to terminate the contractual relationship between Luke and Kesha.”

The pop singer has sought legal termination of her recording contract after accusing Gottwald of sexual, physical, verbal, and emotional abuse in an October 2014 complaint.

Gottwald has denied all allegations and reaffirmed his innocence on Twitter earlier this week.

“Until now I haven’t commented on the lawsuits, which should be resolved in court not here on Twitter,” he wrote. “It’s a shame that there’s so much speculation out there basing itself on so little information. The only truly objective person who knows the facts is the judge. The judge did not rule in Kesha’s favor on Friday. I understand why people without all the information are speaking out. I can appreciate their compassion. But lives can get ruined when there’s a rush to judgment before all the facts come out,” wrote Gottwald.

The music producer has also launched a suit of his own accusing defamation. His production company, Kasz Money is responsible for furnishing Kesha’s services to Sony, which is why the company claims it cannot terminate her contract.

The public feud has drawn considerable attention, stars like Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Lena Dunham, and Adele have voiced their support for Kesha.
