Today is Arafat day and a day when Muslims who are currently performing the pilgrimage in Mecca go to the Mount Arafat to supplicate to Almighty Allah to forgive their sins.
According to one of the prophet's hadith, fasting on this day leads to an expiation of sins of two years and although is not compulsory, it is beneficial on every Muslims even those not performing Hajj
(Mount Arafatجبل عرفات) According to Islamic tradition, the hill is the place where the Islamic prophet Muhammad(S.A.W) stood and delivered the Farewell Sermon to the Muslims who had accompanied him for the Hajj towards the end of his life. On the 9th of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah pilgrims go to Arafat from Mina, for the most important part of theHajj. Here the Khutbah of Hajj is narrated and Zuhr prayer and Asr prayer are prayed together. The pilgrims spend the whole day on `Arafah supplicating to Allah to forgive their sins and praying for personal strength in the future.
